It is VERY difficult to accommodate rush orders this time of year, so thank you for planning accordingly! Ship date is determined once your order is "finalized" meaning that payment has been received, and I have your final approval on a proof. I will not proceed unless I have your approval on the proof, so thank you for checking e-mails diligently!

Orders finalized by November 17th will ship on November 25th.

All right...time for a confession. I really don't like carving pumpkins! It's not what you might think....I don't mind the mess at all, it's just that I'm a perfectionist. I may have an idea in my head of how the finished pumpkin will look...and it never even comes close. I have absolutely NO skill when it comes to carving or cutting, which is why I let my vinyl machine do all my cutting! Yep, vinyl can do just about anything, and it can really do Halloween! A BIG thank you to all the fabulous clients who have kept me so busy this summer! I am announcing a change to my shipping schedule....I just realized that summer is almost over and I panicked! I'm going to take the month of August to focus on the kids, yard, and all the other events we have taking place before school starts again. (Did I really just say the "S" word?)

SO, the last day I will be taking orders is THIS Thursday the 21st. My last shipment will go out on the 27th and then I'll be closing up the sign shop for a while. I will most likely continue to take vinyl orders. I know, I know....I'm TERRIBLE about updating this blog! It's certainly not because I'm not doing anything fun with vinyl! : ) Here's proof....a wonderful neighbor came to me this week needing something fun to finish off her little guy's new space themed room. And this fun new set of vinyl was born! The large rocket on the wall measures 23 inches wide by 36 inches tall and is shown in three colors. I have a coordinating set of smaller rockets, as well as a fun moon and stars combo to go with it. So much fun! Oh, and if you want to check out some GORGEOUS fabrics, check out my neighbor's on-line fabric store! She has such an amazing eye!

So, in the last two years since I started working with vinyl, I've done thousands of signs.....really. I've pretty much got that down. When it comes to putting vinyl on the wall...I still get a little nervous. I know I shouldn't, because it really is very easy to do, but it IS different than a sign...and usually A LOT bigger! I've had a chance to do some fun wall vinyl lately since this is the slow season for signs. I love taking some fun fabric from a bedroom, and creating the decor to go with it! I'll be highlighting some fun rooms over the next week or so.

Here's a couple of fun things from my little gear-head's room. Since he doesn't have a "real" bed with a headboard yet, I created one from vinyl! I love the endless options vinyl provides.

I love beautiful photography. In fact, before I discovered my love of vinyl, I was right on the verge of enrolling in a photography class with a good friend. We had visions of doing what we love most (being stay-at-home-mommies) while finding a creative outlet through photography. Well, I decided the timing wasn't right for me.....what about the friend? Check back to see what happened with her! : )

When a photographer named Carly got in touch with me wanting a sign for her studio, I was instantly curious to check out her site. I fell in love with her style, and wanted her sign to match her design as closely as possible. I love how it turned out, and I think she loves it too! I have sorely neglected this blog....partially because I don't really like how it looks! I didn't do too bad for someone who has NO clue when it comes to setting this stuff up. BUT, I'm ready for a fresh start....a totally new look. Thank goodness for people like Traci at Sweet Cheeky Designs! I was fortunate enough to get on her wait list before she closed it, and now that I have FINALLY gotten some starting information to her, I'm excited to see this blog after its face-lift! Hang in there during the construction stages....many beautiful things are in store!!!

Well, I almost made it through the month of January with a blog post every day....I just couldn't have predicted RSV and pneumonia sneaking into my home and throwing me off like that! It turns out 18-month olds get a little bit high maintenace when they feel that miserable. Thankfully, my little guy is almost back to his silly, mischevious self....I've cleaned up enough messes in the last couple of days to attest to that! : )

I got a very exciting package on my front step today....four new vinyl colors!! I've been a little bit frustrated with the lack of color choices in the matte finish vinyl that I use. Imagine my excitement when I learned that they had just released 14 new "home decor" colors....I had my new colors ordered in less than five minutes! Here is a new color chart....the new colors are the ones in the right-hand column (Key Lime, Powder blue, Light Pink, and Sage green). I know I'm a total vinyl dork, but I kinda had a hard time sleeping last night in anticipation of receiving these. Or maybe it was the little boy in the room down the hall who has fallen into bad habits again that kept me awake.....hmmm......

Day 23 - Come Fly with Me

As a daughter of a pilot, my first airplane ride occurred at two weeks of age. I love to fly, especially with my dad, and it's been so fun to watch him share his love with the grandkids and take them for flights every time they visit. So far, it seems MY daughter has her mom's stomach....she likes the tricks! : )

Even though neither of my boys have airplane-themed rooms, I have created a fun collection of airplane decals, and have learned that there are a lot of other airplane lovers out there! Here's a sampling of the fun art:

A client contacted me wanting a plaque for a friend's little one's room. She was going to use one of the designs I had already created, but mentioned that his room had a safari theme. I couldn't help myself....I had to create something safari-themed! Here's how it turned out:

Here's a quick photo to show that size doesn't matter! The sign on the right is our standard size for this particular design (9.25 x 24). The client that purchased the sign on the left wanted a much smaller one to display on her table at jewelry shows. It still turned out beautifully!

On the flip side, I have a couple of 5 foot long signs in the works....I can accommodate any size you have in mind, so don't be afraid to ask!

I had the opportunity to create a unique store hours canvas for a beautiful store in California. It's called Parchment Westlake, and they seem to offer an incredible variety of gorgeous items. Here is what I created.....

Day 16 - Fun with growth charts

Growth charts are a fun addition to little people's rooms. They probably enjoy tracking their growth as much as Mom and Dad do! I have a growth chart with a sports theme, super-hero theme, butterflies or flowers, but was thrilled when I was contacted to customize a growth chart with a farm theme! This client also wanted the chart mounted on a large piece of wood, so it could be easily moved if they wanted to re-locate it. Here's how it turned out:

I also included little vinyl tractors that the client was going to use to record the date and the child's stats on. Then they could be placed at the correct height on the chart! Here's another beautiful chart I created for a client. We also did some custom vinyl for the room, using the same butterfly swirl pattern. Gorgeous!

Day 14 - Beautiful Baby Frames

A client got in touch with me a while back with a fun project. She was working on some frames for a couple of friends who were expecting babies and wanted to do some really neat wording on the frames, as well as each baby's name and birth stats. She was trying to hand paint the wording, and experienced a bit of frustration, so she decided to get in touch to see if we could make some vinyl work. She actually sent me the Adobe Illustrator files, and I was able to use those to create exactly what she wanted. She was kind enough to send me some photos of the finished product. I absolutely LOVE how they turned out....she did a beautiful job!

Day 13 - A wild ride.....

It's a monumental day....after just over a year of selling on Etsy, I reached 1,000 sales today!
Words cannot even express my gratitude to all of the wonderful people all over the country (and even a couple in Australia and England!) that have allowed me the opportunity to work with them. My fabulous clients are THE reason for my success, and have allowed me to take this hobby so much farther than I ever dreamed.

Day 12 - One of my favorite decals...

When I found this cute hippo, I just knew it had to become a wall decal. I added a couple of stylish birds on his back, and here's how it looks:

I just received this beautiful photo from a client today, and I knew I had to post it right away. It's the first photo I've received of this vinyl up on the wall, and I love it! I can't believe how well it goes with this little one's bedding....isn't it just a gorgeous nursery?

I also recently worked with a client who wanted to customize this by changing the bird a bit. Here's what we ended up with for her nursery, and it's hard to decide which version I like better!

Day 11 - Client Customizations

I love designing new layouts for signs, but I love it even more when a client takes one of my designs, and makes it their own. I thought it would be fun to showcase some of those customizations over the next few days.

This sign was one of the very first I designed...for a former college roommate (Hi Jamie!) and it will always be a favorite, since it got everything rolling for me on Etsy.

The first fabulous customization came when a client wanted to include family members name on the sign:

This one became a favorite as well....I just love the color combinations, and I think it gives just the right feel for a Leathersmith!
And finally, this one was a large sign created for outdoor use at a lakehouse....the options are endless!

Day 10 - School is in session!

My wonderful neighbor is a principal at an elementary school about an hour south of us. First of all, hats off to her for making that commute every day...especially in the nasty winter weather! She got in touch with some ideas to spruce up the school a bit, and just let me run with my ideas. I got to head down with a friend and be involved in hanging all the vinyl, and it was a lot of work...but a lot of fun! Here's a collection of fun photos:

And finished off with a MASSIVE Dr. Seuss quote. This had to be applied in five pieces, and on extremely textured walls, took more than a little coaxing! It measures over 8 feet long....the Cat in the Hat alone measures 3 feet tall!

Day 9 - New design in the line-up

So the sign shown in yesterday's post turned out so well, I ended up creating a welcome sign that can be customized with your last name and adding it to the line-up! I shipped a couple of these out for the holidays, and think they turned out beautifully! The nice thing about this sign, is that it can also be customized with your last name (in place of the Welcome) and your family member's names in a script over the top. Or, use a favorite phrase or saying layered over the top. The options are endless!

Day 8 - Every girl needs a Prince Charming!

A client found me on Etsy and wondered if I could make a custom sign for her little girl's damask/shabby chic nursery. Her little one had yet to make her appearance, but like all expectant mommies, wanted everything to be in place before birth day. She was very patient with me, and in the end, we came up with a beautiful design that turned into a beautiful sign! I have also included a photo of this little one's bedding....I was able to find the exact same damask pattern shown on her bedding, and use it on the sign! This definitely looks like a room fit for a little princess!

I had a client contact me with a very special sign request. An elderly member of her church's congregation had recently passed away, and left a sum of money to the church. The church decided to use the funds to create a playground for the children, and wanted to honor the one who so generously donated the funds that would bring the playground to life. In a very small way, I hope this sign does justice to such a kind, generous act!

Day 6 - A beautiful layered canvas

When I first started on Etsy, I planned on making vinyl on canvas my little niche. For some reason, canvases didn't take off like I'd hoped, but I still have a place in my heart for them! : ) There are so many things you can do with vinyl and canvas, and I especially love layering them. (Check out my January 1st post for more layered canvas photos!) This is one of my favorite designs, shown in my favorite color combination. I have only made a few of these, but I have absolutely loved each one. Hmmm.....maybe I should make one for my own house..... : )

Day 5 - Bouncing Baby Boy!

I had a client come to me looking for something special to display at a baby shower she was hosting. We ended up with a smaller canvas with this little guy's name that was used at the shower, and then was ready to hang in his nursery as part of his decor, and a much larger canvas that was displayed on an easel as a main focal point at the shower. I thought it was a fabulous idea she had, to showcase this little one's name that way, and was thrilled to see these canvases come to life!

(I have blocked out the last name...the ACTUAL canvas didn't have a large mis-matched rectangle on it! : )

Day 4 - Beautiful design re-visited!

WAY back when I first opened my store on Etsy (http://www.defineyourspacevinyl.etsy.com/) I had a client contact me with a special custom request. She shared a story with me about how her mom always sang the Christmas song "Silent Night" in German while they were growing up. She was interested in a canvas that included the words, "Silent Night, Holy Night" both in English, and in German. Working together, we came up with a beautiful design, and she decided on the stunning color combination of gold vinyl on a black canvas. Unfortunately, the photo just doesn't do it justice....

How pleasantly surprised I was to hear from her again this year....she was interested in purchasing another canvas for her sister who had just moved into a new home. It brought back memories from just over a year ago...just getting started on Etsy, and reminded me how fortunate I am to have turned this hobby into something I can do all the time. I owe it all to my wonderful clients (and my patient hubby and kiddos!)....thanks for the opportunity to work with you!

Day 3 - New Design!

I had the opportunity to design this with a client, and knew it had to become a part of my regular line-up! I love how it turned out, and the square shape is unique and fun. Wow...it might be a record...2 days in a row with a new post! The month is off to a great start. I thought I would feature one of my favorite custom signs from the holiday rush this year. I worked with this client to design a sign for his parent's boat house.

Beautiful....isn't it? This client worked patiently with me while we perfected the design. Here is the finished product....a unique, customized sign measuring 2 feet by 3 feet! I love how it turned out, and I hear it was a hit at Christmas.

I love having the opportunity to work with people to create beautiful pieces!

New year....new baby!

As promised, I'm kicking off the New Year with a new blog post every day this month. It's hard to believe that my New Year baby turns 3 today...where does the time go? I have been working on getting his room put together, and planned to post fun pictures of his room on his birthday. BUT, I'm not quite finished yet. Lucky for our family, we welcomed a brand new neice on December 28th, so I can show off pictures of her cute room!

Little Elizabeth's mama did all the hard work of painting, and getting everything in place before she was born. The very same night labor started, we finished designing the finishing touches for her room. While Mom and Baby were resting in the hospital, I got to sneak in and put up the fun artwork we had designed just a couple days earlier...with some help from Nana, Grandma and Grandpa. It coordinates perfectly with her bedding, and will grow with Elizabeth as she gets bigger...hopefully not TOO fast!

Welcome to our family Elizabeth....you're in for a wild ride! : )

In the (semi) calm before the holiday storm, maybe I should update my site, no? Here's what I've been working on (along with hundreds of other things, of course!). Thanks for all of the fun projects...keep them coming! I'll highlight a few more in the coming days.

This sign was our first attempt at an oval, and I absolutely LOVE how it turned out! It's a whopping three feet wide (!) and was designed to hang on an urban chicken coop. So fun!

Purchased for her grandson, this will make a great addition to a little guy's room decor!

Designed to match this little one's bedding (the Mod Pod Monkey set from Babies R Us)....so much fun to create!

Another HUGE sign...this one measures two feet high by three feet wide, and will welcome guests to this client's wedding. I also designed a group of five smaller signs to use at the wedding and reception. I hope they love them!

YARD SALE!

For any of you locals out there, I'm involved in a multi-family yard sale tomorrow (Saturday, the 12th) starting at 9am. I cleaned out my vinyl room, and will be selling cute vinyl canvases, and shelf-sitters for $1-2 each. There are also seasonal items, such as Halloween votives and plates, Thanksgiving trifle bowls (which are BEAUTIFUL!) and all the other stuff I got rid of from my house. Here are some of the common questions you may have. You are always welcome to get in touch with additional questions!

How do I place an order?

Sigh....for now (until I can get a website up and running) you are welcome to drop me an e-mail indicating which item you are interested in. If you are ordering a sign, please include the personalization information, as well as any color schemes you have in mind. I will be in touch with a proof as quickly as I can, and we'll go from there.

For vinyl orders, let me know which design you are interested in, as well as an approximate size. I can then get in touch with some pricing information and we'll go from there.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I am happy to accept money orders by mail, but the easiest way to accept payment is through PayPal. Once we have your order finalized, I can send you an invoice through PayPal, and we'll be on our way.

How long will it take to receive my order?

Vinyl orders ship each Wednesday via Priority mail and should be received by that Friday or Saturday. Signs ship each Friday, and will take 5 business days max to arrive. Please check out my shipping schedule to determine how far in advance you should place your order. I CAN do rush orders, but do charge additional fees. Life manages to stay plenty busy, and rush orders can be challenging to pull off. Thanks in advance for watching my shipping schedule and planning ahead!

What method do you use to ship?

Signs are shipped via FedEx, while vinyl orders ship USPS Priority mail.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes! I am more than happy to ship internationally. Please get in touch for a shipping quote.

Do you accept custom requests?

At this time, I am limiting the completely custom requests that I'll take on. It's difficult to find the time to sit down and design right now. I'm hoping to be available for custom work after the New Year.

Are your signs suitable for outdoor use?

Our standard signs as shown in the gallery are not suitable for outdoor use. They are created on MDF which does not do well outside. I am more than happy to create a sign on wood that can be weather-proofed and placed outside. There is an additional charge of $8 due to the cost of the wood.

Is it difficult to put vinyl on the wall?

Vinyl is fairly user-friendly, and the key is to move slowly. All of my vinyl shipments include written instructions with diagrams. Here is a great video that shows some great technique as well.

Can the vinyl be taken off the wall and placed elsewhere?

Once vinyl has been removed from the wall, it cannot be re-used.

Is vinyl easy to remove from the wall? Will it damage my paint?

Vinyl is very easy to remove from the wall....it peels right off with no trouble. I have never had it damage my paint during removal.

My wonderful Mom is here visiting, and we have had such a great time together this week. She brought me this amazing, HUGE stack of family history papers....all sorts of keepsakes from the lives of my grandparents, and great-grandparents, and even before. I have such a fun stack of reading material to go through! Along those lines, I recently did a fun, unique sign for a neighbor. Her in-laws just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, and we came up with a beautiful way to honor their family tree. Take a look....it would make a fabulous gift for parents or grandparents!

I have featured this particular sign in a previous post, but have to dedicate another post to it. This wonderful woman, Janice, contacted me about a month ago to have a sign made for her niece who was getting married. She wanted to present this sign to her at her bridal shower. Here's how it turned out:
It was so fun to hear from Janice after the shower, and hear how well the sign was received, and even get a picture of Katie holding the sign at the shower! Well, this sweet woman didn't stop there. I got an e-mail from her today, thanking me once again, and with the following photos:

I know, I know....it's been WAY too long since I've posted! It certainly doesn't mean that I haven't been working! : ) I've actually had a couple of crazy weeks....record sales on Etsy (thank you everyone!), a weekend out-of-town, my baby's first birthday (sigh), and my parents in town for a nice long visit (thanks for all the help Mom and Dad....love you!).

Here are some fun custom projects I've had the pleasure of creating in the last couple of weeks:

This fun sign was designed using the recipient's graphics from their wedding invitation...they are getting married TOMORROW and I hope they love it!

Photos really don't do this one justice....for some reason I just LOVE how it turned out!

This one is similar to the "Wells" sign I've shown before, but with a twist. And I had to post it because I just adore the color choices! This sign will look great displayed at their wedding!

Another fun one using the leaves from the recipients "Save the dates." I had the pleasure of speaking with Jamie after she received it, and it sounds like she loves it!

This is the "Henrie" sign with a twist...the client wanted their names at the bottom, and I think it looks fabulous!

I have had so much fun creating some unique, custom designs for clients lately. I thought I would share a couple with you!

This sign was done for a couple who will be getting married under a large oak tree this month. Their friend contacted me to see if I could do a sign to represent that, and here's what we came up with:
Another client found me on Etsy, and wanted to see what I could come up with for a sign that would be going outside their guest room door. Their last name is "Magnuson" so they wanted to do a fun play on words. Here's the final result:

Retro kitchen graphics!

I've been into the "retro" look a bit lately, due to some fun vinyl images I put in my little guy's room (to be seen in a future post, I'm sure!). Here is a fun one for your kitchen or dining room! It can be placed directly on the wall, or I can put it on a canvas or wooden plaque for you. I have also included a photo of what it may look like on a fun large platter....the options are numerous! Ahhh...if only I could put this up in MY house and have it be true. A genius in the kitchen I am NOT!

Maybe I can blame it on the changing weather, but I've been drawn to designs that include butterflies, flowers, trees...anything that gives a sign of life...a sign that this long, dreary winter is nearing its end!

Here's one of my favorite little sayings about little girls...as shown it measures 24 inches wide by 15 inches tall and can be done this size for $18. Of course it can be done in any size you'd like, and also any vinyl color! THINK SPRING!

Whew...it's been a while! It got a little crazy for a bit...well, crazier than normal anyway. It always feels crazy around here for some reason! I have managed to find some time to create a couple of fun new signs. I love damask, and am thrilled that I figured out how to get my cutter to cut it! Here are just a couple of the ideas that I have had time to put together. Damask makes a gorgeous border, and will definitely add a fun, shabby chic touch to your home! What a sweet way to remind everyone to let the baby dream in peace...this decal is designed to go on your little one's door. It measures 20 inches long by about 4 inches high and has a cute little moon and stars graphic next to the phrase. Well, I'm finally making progress! I am happy to say that all of the design galleries are back up, and have a least a few designs in each of them.
